CHANEL 2.55 MODELLO ICONICO

CHANEL 2.55 ICONIC MODEL

 CHANEL 2.55 ICONIC MODEL

The acronym 2.55 indicates a date: February 1955.
A decidedly synthetic and essential name, as was the habit in all things for Coco Chanel.

The 2.55 was born on the principle of a functional, beautiful but above all comfortable bag model, which leaves the hands free, a bag dedicated to an active, free, independent woman.

A bag idea in line with the fashion conception with which Coco Chanel founded an empire. chanel-2.55-lechic
Let's not forget that we are talking about the woman who eliminated the constriction of the bodice, and was the first to propose a garment such as the suit: elegant, yet sober and above all comfortable clothing, sewn on a free and independent woman.
And the solution to this dilemma was simpler than one might have imagined: a shoulder strap was enough.
In February 1955, the first Chanel 2.55 appears. The first models are in jersey, then in soft lamb.
The surface is in turned leather and stitched with diamonds.
The shoulder strap is made of a chain, and is inspired by the keychain of the caretakers of the orphanage where Mademoiselle Chanel grew up.
Memories of the orphanage are even reflected in the inside of the bag, which is burgundy, like the uniforms of the orphanage children.
Inside there is a small pocket closed by a zip, while in the back there is a pocket designed to store coins.
The closure is also simple, rectangular and in metal.
An essential model, but of great elegance.
A model that has survived almost intact to this day. Of course, in the 1980s Monsieur Karl Lagerfeld arrived to slightly rejuvenate its forms.
It was he who added the two legendary intertwined C's on the clasp and the intertwined leather strip to the shoulder strap chain: and here's the Chanel Classic Flap.

The Chanel Classic Flap bag was originally created by Coco Chanel in the 1920s and was redesigned in the 1980s by Karl Lagerfeld to include the now iconic CC turnlock.

These bags are part of the "Timeless Classic" collection. This bag is available in six sizes: Mini, New Mini, Small, Medium, Jumbo and Maxi.

The Jumbo and Maxi sizes were briefly available in a Single Flap style, but are now only available in a Double Flap style.

The Chanel flap bag was updated and released in February 1955, hence the name "2.55". Chanel released an exact copy of the original 2.55 in February 2005 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the original's creation.
